Kennesaw State Democrats Meetings - |
| |
|
The Kennesaw State Democrats will hold their second meeting on August 29th at 7:00 PM in the KSU English Building, RM 168. Only KSU students can be official members, but our meetings are open to the public and we encourage Democrats of all ages to join us. The KSU Democrats would like to thank Cobb County House District Captains Will Fowlkes and Joel Cope for coming out and supporting us. Also in attendance were the Executive Director of the Young Democrats of Georgia, Tim Cairl; State Secretary of the Young Democrats of Georgia and the Cobb County Democratic Committee, C. Benson Manica; and State President of the College Democrats, Griffin Wasdin. It's very encouraging to us that so many Democratic leaders want our chapter to prosper. We plan to work closely with the Cobb Democratic party make our county a shade bluer in the upcoming elections. We hope to see you all at an upcoming meeting. |

Cobb Democrats See Michael Moore Film - |
| |
|
July 10th, 2007 (KENNESAW, GA) - There was a great turnout at the Michael Moore movie event on Tuesday, July 10th, 2007, where over twenty Democrats converged onto the AMC 24 in Kennesaw, Georgia, to see the Moore film, "Sicko". There were at least three guests who said they had never attended a political event before, but quickly made friends fast, as everyone feels sure the "new guests" will be seen again real soon at another upcoming event. One guest drove from Covington, Georgia to attend the moive witht he group! The event was planned by the Georgia for Democracy group.
Michael Moore's "Sicko" is centered around our country's healthcare crisis. The film was so much better than anyone was expecting - and the group of eager movie-goers had high hopes. Although it is a documentary and full of surprising facts and information, the group all laughed as hard as the probsbly have ever laughed during a movie and, surprisingly, some cried buckets of tears like some do during "Gone with the Wind". The film was really, really moving and yet, still very funny. Some claimed they would go back again, but one thing was abundantly clear: they were all definitely telling all of their friends and family about seeing the film - and seeing it soon.
There was a great dinner-drink get-together after the movie. One of the topics of discussion was centered around what action could the group take next. Some action items that came up included writing or calling congressmen and presidential candidates. As with most all of the group's film screening events, they had made new friends, had much spirited discussion and had lots of fun.
