Meeting 6/11 and 2016 CCDC Annual Herb Butler Independence Day Picnic

Our next Donuts with Democrats will be on our normal day of Saturday, 6/11 at 9 am at the Marietta Fire Museum Conference room.  $5 for donuts and coffee/water.  You may also prepay for our 4th of July picnic at this meeting.  We’ll be looking for volunteers, too!      Herb Butler Independence Day Picnic Header

The Cobb County Democratic Committee is hosting its annual family picnic commemorating a driving force behind the county party, Herb Butler.   We march in the parade (yes, we have a float!), then go to a great AIR-CONDITIONED facility to have our picnic.

The picnic kicks off at approximately noon following the Marietta Freedom Parade at:

The IAM Local 709 Union Hall (an AIR-CONDITIONED facility!)
1032 South Marietta Pkwy Marietta, GA 30060

Monday, July 4, 2016, 12:00 pm-4:00 pm

Tickets are $10/adult for picnic food (burgers, hotdogs, etc.), non-alcoholic beverages, and desserts.  Veggie options available.

Children 12 and younger eat free.  (There will be crafts/activities for the kids, too.)

Please RSVP so we know approximately how many people will be attending.

We also need help planning and building our float and helping with the picnic.  Please sign up where you would like to help.

We look forward to celebrating with you!  Invite fellow Democrats to join us!

There are many judicial races this year, so here are some definitions to keep in mind as you choose your candidates:

Superior Court

The Superior Court is Georgia’s general jurisdiction trial court. It has exclusive, constitutional authority over felony cases, divorce, equity and cases regarding title to land. The exclusive jurisdiction of this court also covers such matters as declaratory judgments, habeas corpus, mandamus, quo warranto, and prohibition. The Superior Court corrects errors made by lower courts by issuing writs of certiorari; for some lower courts, the right to direct review by the Superior Court applies.

State Courts

The State Court was established by a 1970 legislative act that designated certain existing countywide courts of limited jurisdiction as state courts. State courts may exercise jurisdiction over all misdemeanor violations, including traffic cases, and all civil actions, regardless of the amount claimed, unless the superior court has exclusive jurisdiction.
