The Cobb County Democratic Committee (CCDC) is demanding immediate action from Cobb County District Attorney Sonya Allen. In the name of due process, drop all charges and release Mr. Mahendra Patel — an innocent man who remains unjustly incarcerated for over 49 days, following a deeply troubling incident of misconduct by the Acworth Police Department. We further call for criminal charges against the Caroline Miller, who falsely accused Mr. Patel of attempted kidnapping.

Monique Sheffield isn’t someone who leaves things undone. So, while she has checked off a long list of accomplishments as District 4 representative on the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, there’s more to do.

She is running to remain District 4 Commissioner in the April 29 special election against Republican Matthew Hardwick.

“My desire to serve residents of District 4 comes from a deep commitment to uplifting our community and ensuring every resident has access to opportunity, dignity, and a better quality of life,” Sheffield said. “I ran on a platform centered on improving our quality of life by expanding green space, increasing access to employment, and encouraging smart development. What motivates me daily is knowing that our residents deserve a community that thrives, and I believe that with the right leadership, we can achieve that together.”

Erick Allen loves his community, a fact that drives his desire to serve his neighbors as commissioner in the District 2 seat on the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.

If elected, the job will be the next chapter in more than two decades of public service for Allen, a small business owner working as a consultant focusing on workforce performance and development. Of his many experiences in serving others, the District 2 Commission post might offer the greatest opportunity to help.

“I have learned that the closer you are to the people, the better impact you can have,” Allen said. “When the D2 seat became open I saw an opportunity to continue my service and have a greater impact on the families of Cobb County.”

“This is what Democracy looks like!”

It was a favorite chant of the peaceful protestors that crowded into Downtown Marietta on Saturday. Over 400 people registered for the event, but estimates from members on the ground said we likely doubled that number.

Regardless, the number of attendees was in the hundreds. Hundreds of people felt strongly enough about the state of our democracy and country that they showed up to protest. They joined the 1,200 protests and millions of patriots across the country Saturday to send Washington DC a message:

Just prior to this week’s primary election, The Marietta Daily Journal’s Around Town section zeroed in on a video made by Georgia State Representative Gabriel Sanchez before publishing an utterly tone deaf release by another representative, republican Ginny Ehrhart.

In the video Rep. Sanchez utilizes the online platform he spent years cultivating to provide resources to the immigrant community under attack by President Donald Trump and his far-right supporters.

What was interesting about the framing of the article, aside from publishing the snobbish comments from a Cobb elitist, was its mention of socialists and a year-old primary battle before getting to the point of Sanchez’s video.
